Help for Panic Attacks

If you suffer from panic attacks you'll be glad to know that help for panic attacks is more readily available than ever has been before. Some methods require working with therapist but there many self help methods and training programs that you can use on your own. Here's a partial list of panic attack help techniques that I think you'll find useful.

Breathing

You've probably heard this advice already but I wanted to be sure to mention it just in case you hadn't. Control, slow, deep breathing using your diaphragm helps relax your body and mind in addition to supporting your health.

It is very useful to practice deep breathing by taking 10 slow deep breaths frequently throughout the day. This helps you maintain a relaxed state. Also, if you feel anxiety starting to build taking some slow breaths can help stem the tide.

Diet

Many people forget that their diet affects their mental state. Highly refined foods such as sugars and white flour cause wild swings in blood sugar levels that definitely affect mood. And common sense tells you that drinking lots of coffee and caffeinated beverages probably isn't the best thing to do if you're trying to stay calm.

It's also important to have an adequate supply of a wide variety of vitamins and other nutrients. The best way to do this is to eat a diet that emphasizes a wide range of fruits and vegetables, includes some healthy fat (particularly fish oil) and has protein from lean, natural sources.

Thought Control

Panic AwayMost people don't realize how much control they could have over their thoughts. Their thoughts just happen to them. Perhaps even worse, they have habits of thought that they keep thinking over and over again. For people with panic attacks, these habits of thought tend to be worrisome and anxiety provoking.

It may seem difficult at first, but it is possible to take control of your thoughts and changes thought habits to ones that serve you.

Meditation is a classic way of developing control of your mind and is well worth exploring. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a more modern psychological approach that strives to help you correct mistaken thoughts and perceptions that cause you problems. You can earn cognitive therapy either working with a therapist or through books on the subject.

Stress

Stressful events and life situations often trigger a panic attacks. A rather, they have a person in such a constant state of high tension that a relatively trivial thought or situation triggers a full-blown panic reaction.

To the extent possible, you should try to eliminate as much stress as you can from your life. Maybe you've taken on too many projects. Or maybe you're trying to do too many things for too many people. Only you know your exact situation. Step back, take a look at things and see what you can change that might help. Maybe useful to talk things over with a close friend to get an objective viewpoint.

When you change what you can, then you need to become more skillful at dealing with what's left. I've already mentioned meditation and that's an extremely useful approach. There are lots of other stress management techniques that you should learn and use. Most community colleges and adult learning centers have courses on stress management that you might want to look into.

Panic Attack Courses

Another approach to getting help for panic attacks is to take a training program aimed specifically at eliminating them. As it turns out, panic attacks are a relatively common problem so many people have had to learn how to deal with them.

In the past, results have been somewhat sporadic and it didn't seem to be a method that work consistently for a majority of people. That's changed. Recent insights into psychology and better understanding of panic attacks as well as newer psychological methods combined with the best of older techniques has resulted in some highly effective panic attack treatment systems.

One that I can particularly recommend is Panic Away. This system is completely natural. If you under a physician's care and using medications to help bring your panic attacks under control you can continue taking them while you apply Panic Away to eliminate panic attacks once and for all. However many people successfully eliminate the panic attacks following the Panic Away method alone.
